Cooperativa Lazzarelle

Lazzarelle Cooperative, founded in 2010, is a social enterprise that produces coffee in the Pozzuoli Women's Prison. An all-female challenge that enhances artisanal knowledge and creates social inclusion. The inmates employed in the Cooperative want to be an active part of their own evolution: they are personally committed to demonstrating that change is possible and there is no need for compassion, but for ideas, resources and opportunities.

Many of the women engaged in the production of Lazzarelle Coffee had never had a regular labor contract. In the cooperative, in addition to learning a trade, they became aware of their rights and potential.

Lazzarelle Coffee was born from theunion of two weak actors: women prisoners and small-scale coffee producers from the Global South, those of the Shadhilly Cooperative, who supply the beans processed by Lazzarelle Cooperative.
