The delicately and gently scented flowers of chamomile contain within them lazulene, an essential oil that, along with other elements, gives the drink soothing, sedative and relaxing properties.
It is good for counteracting digestive problems and muscle spasms and is useful in cases of nervous tension and stress. It also has discrete anti-inflammatory properties and can be used as a decongestant, soothing and even as a pain reliever.
